There are innumerable websites which offer free movies, free clips, free trailers and never-before-seen footage. It will take a bit of searching to find what you are looking for; but if you are dogged in your determination, you will find your favorites.
Of course, most affordable are the free movies. However, newer releases usually will cost you at least a few dollars to download. Still, that beats the heck out of driving to the theater, buying tickets and paying a babysitter. At Vongo.com you can enroll for a free fourteen-day trial period. During that time you can download all of the movies you desire. At the end of that time, you may quit or enroll as a member with a monthly membership (currently) of $9.99. You will not find first-run movies (those still in theaters) at Vongo.com or at any other legal site. You will, however, find many pretty current titles. Vongo stocks movies of all genres including comedy, romance, drama, horror, musicals, documentaries and more. If you cant find something at this site you like, it would be surprising.
If you want to see Sex and the City The Movie, or the latest Indiana Jones, you will have to drive to the Cineplex and buy a ticket. Your other option is to wait for blockbusters to be shown on cable pay-per-view or released for sale on DVDs. Typically, hit movies take several months (after leaving theaters) before they show up on cable. Then, it is usually a couple of more months before the DVDs are available for purchase. If there is a movie you just cannot wait to see, it might be worth the high price of admission; otherwise, waiting a bit is a good way to go.
